2010 Mission Trip Overview

Our group will join some other volunteers in Brazil to work with CMU ministry and build a church. This will be our fifth year to go on a trip with CMU. We will be going to Fortaleza Brazil on September 17th and return on the 25th.

When we arrive, there is usually a concrete foundation and supports for a roof. During the week, we will brick all of the walls and put on a roof. In our spare time, we will go out into the community and invite families to attend the church dedication on our last night. This is also a time we can minister, pray, and fellowship with the Brazilians.

In past years, the dedication service has always been such an awesome time. The church is usually overflowing with many standing outside. During that time, the Word of God will be preached and some will make decisions that have eternal consequences. It has been such a privilege to be a part of what God is doing in Brazil and to help CMU with their mission.....

"to build churches to the glory of God where the gospel will be preached, lives will be changed, and people will be saved until Jesus comes."

Thank you

After the dedication ceremony we traveled a couple hours to another city where our flight will leave on Friday.

I just wanted to thank all of our prayer warriors and those who donated to this trip. You were as much a part of this trip as we were. God answered many of our prayers this week and we give him the glory for all that was done. This was the 304th church that CMU has built. We pray that it will be a lighthouse for this community.

We look forward to sharing more when we return. Please pray for safe travel home on Friday and Saturday.

Church Dedication

We had the church dedication tonight at 6pm. The inside filled quickly with many people from the community. The pastor from the mother church brought some of his congregation also.

The pastor had all the children come to the front. There were so many. We are not for sure what was said, but we think it was like a little "childrens church."

Samantha was given the opportunity to share her testimony. It was her first time to share with such a large group! She read 2 Cor 5:17 where it talks about believers being a new creation.

Our mission team was surprised by the unveiling of a plaque on the church wall. It had all of our names listed on it. This was the first time in my five years of going to Brazil that I had seen this done.

4th Day of Building

The weather has been great the entire trip. There has always been a breeze to keep the heat tolerable. Today was our last build day. While a few were putting in the last sections, a group of us was able to go to two schools. There were had two of our team members do some magic tricks and some strength feats. They do this while sharing the gospel.

We set the final brick right around noon.

Before the kids headed out to school for their afternoon classes, we had some giveaways which our life group members provided. They were very thankful for everything we brought.

Tonight is the church dedication at 6pm (4 pm CST). Please pray for this time. We pray that many will attend and they would respond to the gospel. We will be leaving this city tonight after the service. Pray for safe travel.

3rd Day Building

We completed our third day of building. The roof is complete and we lack about three sections in the top. Here is a pic of the inside; as you can see, the brazilians are all hanging out with us! You just gotta work around them!

We should be done tomorrow morning and we will focus on outreach more and also inviting everyone to tomorrow's Dedication Service at 6pm. Israel, the translator, and an American pastor, Jack, went with me (Samantha) to meet and witness to some of the villagers. It was a great time! We did notice a very strong catholic influence....many of the people claimed that they would be saved by doing good things. Please pray we have a great turn out!

Dave who is in fortaleza, is out of the hospital but in a hotel waiting for us to get there on Wednesday night

Ok! We promised some pics, so here they are! First, we wanted to post a picture of what we saw when we first arrived to the sight on Sunday. Here is the church and as you can see, it’s a foundation with the frame. Notice the landscaping! Help Dean!

Today was our second day of building; God again blessed us with a great breeze! Here are some pics of the Wichita Falls Team members:

Helena

Also....
Please pray for our safety most of all; tomorrow, we lay the highest parts of the church walls. This bricking is so dangerous because the scaffoldings feel so wobbly. We had three people fall today at the medium levels, so we really need to have a safe day tomorrow. Everyone is Ok, praise God.

We began to pass out toys to the children today….they are so funny. They don’t know any English accept: Micheal Jackson and Brittney Spears….oh my! Poor kids! One lady asked us “how does it feel to do this for others?” Our reply was that we do it in the name of Jesus Christ and that it feels great! We love their country and their people and want to show love to them. We only ask that they come to Wednesday night dedication….its important that the church has a big Kick Off!

Because most of the bricking is done, some of us can now focus on the outreach portion of the Mission. Tomorrow we will go door to door and invite the villagers to come on Wednesday. We will pass out tracks that share the Gospel and also witness to those who are willing to talk to us. The toys are so important because they enable us to get inside of their homes.

Prayer List:

Safety, that no one falls or gets hurt
Pray for Dave who is still sick with the fever. He was taken to hospital tonight
Pray for Outreach as we begin to go door to door. Pray that God opens hearts
Praise God for the breeze
Miss you guys!

Day One of Building

Wow! Hey there friends and family! We are somewhere outside of Fortaleza...two hours inland actually from where we landed. The city is called Caninde but don't ask me how to say that!

We started building today and have accomplished a good section of rough and the bricking. It's kinda like riding a bike....the bricking....we all jumped in like pros! The coolest thing that happened to us was the agape love that was shown by a neighborhood family who allowed us to make sandwiches in their home, using their dishes and then allowed all of us (20 people) to eat there in the shade of their home. Then.....they cleaned up for us....they insisted!!! These people did not know us or anyone with CMU. They r now storing all of our food and all of our tools in their home until tomorrow. It's amazing how God always provides for us.

I didn't think I would ever say this, but this area is more desolate than the part of Teresina we were in. It's very dead and dry. And dusty. I look forward to returning to Fortaleza on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. We do have WI FI in the hotel lobby so please check the blog for updates. Also, feel free to send out this address to others.

Prayer Requests: pray for Dave who Has been very very very I'll since arriving. He is sooooo sick that we haven't even met him. He has not come out of the room. We may have to leave a CMU member behind tomorrow to care for him.
Pray for our living conditions! That no others get sick
God blessed us with a mighty wind that kept us cool today....we pray for the weather to continue to be decent.
